Overview
This article will describe how to search the Safety Pool™ database using an ODD definition.
If you don’t know what an ODD is or how to write one, please see How to Write an ODD Definition first.
If you want to perform a basic search using scenario tags, please read Scenario Search by Tags.
Scenario Search
Firstly, select the libraries you want to search by using the drop-down menu at the top of the page.

To search by ODD, you can upload an ODD file directly to Safety Pool™, or you can copy or write text into the editor directly.

When you start the scenario search, using the button at the bottom of the page, the textual ODD definition will be converted into a series of search criteria, and then the selected libraries will be searched for matching scenarios. These can be viewed by clicking the link that appears in the green box.
The search criteria can also be manually updated by adding tags from the ‘tags’ menu, adjusting value ranges, or removing tags. This is a quick way to make minor changes.

Extended Mode
When searching via ODD in Default Mode, you can choose whether to do a standard search, or an extended search.
The extended toggle will only affect searches in Default mode.
Standard vs. Extended Search
Intuitively, the Standard search will return exact matches, while the Extended search will return partial matches.
Standard Search
When doing a standard search, it will match all scenarios containing at least one element from every Include statement.
In the example below, this will look for scenarios which:
Contain a motorway, radial road, or minor road
AND contain an intersection or roundabout
AND have the sun elevation between 10 and 90 degrees
AND have no snowfall
AND have no up-slopes

This search, in standard mode, will match 319 scenarios. |

Extended Search
When doing an extended search, it will match all scenarios containing at least one element from at least one Include statement.
In the example below, it will return scenarios which:
Contain a motorway, radial road, or minor road
OR contain an intersection or roundabout
OR have the sun elevation between 10 and 90 degrees
AND have no snowfall
AND have no up-slope
This will match a wider range of scenarios than the standard search.
